Baby Boy Pages!

I've recently begun relisting my Ebay auction for 10 pages. This has been a big hit in this economy. People are more interested in getting the best deal for their money and by getting 10 pages at once, they save on shipping since most sellers on Ebay only sell their layouts in sets of 2.
With my 10 custom pages, the client is able to give me an indication of theme. In this case, Beth asked me to make some baby boy pages for a friend of hers. I hope they enjoy this color scheme I've used. Here are 5 pages from the set. I tried to use paper from the same line (in this case, awesome Wild Asparagus by MME) so that when they are put in an album it flows.

(Pardon my copyright stamp... it's something I'm experimenting with.)

Color Schemes. Do you have a favorite?

I do NOT have a steady favorite color scheme. I think I'm a seasonal scrapbooker. By the fall, I'll be craving those great fall colored pages and in winter I go for traditional holiday colors with some muted colors for snow. One color I will never get tired of is RED. I can use red all year round. For a while, I was very on board with red with brown. I just think that's a great combo and less harsh than a more common red/black combo. These days it's all about YELLOW and RED for me. These Cosmo Cricket papers arrived just at the right time for me!

Not wanting to get stuck in a rut... I managed to go out of my comfort zone and I used this dark teal color as a background for this photo of Brynne looking mischievous holding her big rock (she then threw it in the Hudson River)

Just Loving these Pics

My daughter, Brynne, is our little bookworm... our more serious child. So it was a pleasant surprise to me when she grabbed my shades (the coolest sunglasses EVER) and posed like she had it goin' on. I took these pics at her school just before her field trip (hence all the numbers on the right). She just wanted to show me that she's the perfect combination of brains, looks, AND personality. Boys lookout!

Rave Reviews

Recently I participated in a contest that lasted over a month and challenged me to the brink of my creativity. I think I'm a good scrapper... I wouldn't be this dedicated if I didn't think so but to hear others say my work was good was so nice to hear! I wanted so share some of the great comments I received for my "Living Out Loud" layout:

Layle Koncar of Basic Grey (formerly of Scenic Route) said:

Living Out Loud - Clever detail work with the ribbon and the eyelets

Lindsay Moore of Cosmo Cricket!
Love the photo’s. Fun, bright, layout. Put together very well

Brandin O'Neill of Webster's Pages!
I love all the laying but it still feels light to me. Perfectly layed out to focus on the expressions of the sweet little face. A very happy page to look at.

Stephanie Howell of LilyBee! (And many other awesome things).
I love your vibrant color choices. I'm also very drawn to your innovative use of trims and borders. Beautiful job!

Susan (luv2scrap)
I like the vibrancy of this layout, the colours and attention to details. The eyelets and ribbons in the torn corner of the paper are a great touch.

Stacey Michaud
the photos are so eye-catching and I love the title work--it brings the attention right to the photos, love the little tie

Abbie T:

I love the bright colors and all the little extras she added like the pins, teared paper with the eyelets and ribbon and the stitching.

Camilla
A sparkling, colourful creation and a mix of different patterns without being to blurry. It makes you happy.

Delaina
Great Colors Who are these people? They were on the exclusive panel of judges for the Nook Scrap Off. I thank them all for taking the time to look at all of the entries.

Scrapbooking Tip #15: Make it Happen!

I just realized that I haven't given a tip in a while and this latest tip came to me in a letter I received from my newest client, Beth from Pennsylvania. In the note she thanked me for doing some work for her and explained what she wanted with her photos. The note ended by saying "How do you find time to scrapbook for yourself?!" While, I don't think she was necessarily looking for an answer or an explanation it struck me that perhaps I should explain.

When I meet people at craft shows and crop events 9 times out of 10 someone will comment "Wow, how do you find the time to do all of this?" My answer: "I make it happen." If you have a talent and an interest in scrapbooking you will be amazed at what you can sacrifice to "make it happen". For me, it's less time invested in interesting programs on HGTV and Discovery Health. I also don't watch any of the hottest new shows on TV. Whenever people would suggest a show to me, my answer is always "Nope, not interested in adding any more TV programming". That's not to say that I don't watch TV. The DVR has been a lifesaver!!

I also "make it happen" by involving my daughters in my work. Luckily, I'm blessed to have a dedicated craft space in our spare bedroom. I also keep plenty on hand for them to work with while I'm scrapping too. It's a great bonding time for us!

So, it's really no secret.... just "make it happen". But I wouldn't have a successful business if everyone actually made it happen so, basically, ignore this tip... keep doing the other things you love in your spare time and then get in touch with me for your scrapbooking needs :)

Keeping Busy!

I've been very productive this week! Now that the Nook contest has ended (I made the top 10 out of almost 70 entries) I have found a new love for doing work just for the fun of it. I think my layouts reflect this new energy I've found. I also really need to put a dent in the buildup of photos I have. I have given up on scrapping many of the photos from the past year and will probably end up just putting them into regular albums. I'm hoping to avoid that.

Keeping My Eye on the Prize

So hubby and I have decided to take a 2nd (ok 3rd) honeymoon this fall to Ireland. I've never been there and it's a dream come true to go there. Naturally, I need a new lens to optimize my experience there. I already plan on borrowing some snazzy ones from my well-connected father (he has 9 lenses!! 9 lenses!! and he's an AMATEUR) but I have my eye on this one so I need to start saving my pennies now....

...for my fans, keep an eye on the blog as I will probably be posting some kind of massive fire sale soon so I can start saving my pennies for that beauty.

More Fun with My Nook Kit

The June kit from the Scrapbook Nook arrived just in time. For some reason, I've been drawn to anything mixing yellow with red so I will probably have this kit completely wiped out in a few days. I recently signed up for a 3 month membership to their kits and if the rest are anything like this one, I won't be disappointed!

Who is Hungry?

This is a very special lunch box that I designed for Brynne's teacher as an end of the year gift. I figured something like this was great for keeping favorite recipes or favorite menus for that great take-out place in town.

My Final Round Submission

Well, this is it. The contest at the Scrapbook Nook is almost over and the finalists have to submit their very best work in the hopes of being chosen as the newest member of their design team. To say that I am in some TALENTED company is putting it mildly. The ladies at the nook are among the best scrapbookers I've ever seen and I'm honored to have made it this far. I'm proud of my accomplishment and I feel that over the past month I have truly become a better scrapbooker. Win or lose, I feel like I've already won!

The Scrapbook Nook June Kit

My June kit from the Scrapbook Nook arrived the other day and I just want to show you a picture of the goodies I am so excited to work with. Stay tuned tomorrow when I post a great (well, in my opinion at least) layout that uses many of the items contained in this kit.

Big Fat Order!

I love my loyal clients.... I love that they keep coming back. My pal Jen in California has hit me up for several different items and I promised her a little peek.

Jen made one of the funniest requests I've ever had. She wanted a mini album titled "My Mommy Stuck Me in a Pageant".... well... I came through. I actually found this little title that said "Resistance is Futile" which I thought was a perfect accent so I used that whole theme throughout the album. It's quite a far cry from the cutesy girlie album I just made for her daughter's pageant experience.

Cards for a Job Well Done

Over at the Scrapbook Nook we were challenged AGAIN to create something special. This time, it was cards to send to other nook members who have really stepped up their game during their month-long challenge. I know the 2 ladies I will be sending these to but it was a hard decision with so much talent out there. The finalists will be announced today so I'm hoping I made the cut.

For a Pageant Princess

My longest ongoing client has a beautiful little girl and has decided that she is going to be a stage mom and put her into pageants :)

Here is an album I've made for her to put in photos of her first big show!

Photos of the Teacher Gifts:

As promised from the other day! I gifted these little cuties to Catrina's preschool teachers today and now I have to hunker down to make a gift for Brynne's teacher. I think I'm going to make a lunch box for her.

Teacher Gifts!

If you're anything like me, you've just now come to the realization that it is June and the clock is ticking for the end of the school year! Custom crafts make unique gifts for that special teacher. Contact me to order something for your child's teacher.

It's extra tricky for me this year since Catrina has the same teachers that Brynne had a few years ago so coming up with a "unique" gift for them was tricky. They'll each be getting a chipboard album similar to this one (same shaped pages with different colors. I will photograph them this week)

Can't Stop Now... I'm having too much fun!

I neglected to mention that I made it on to Round 2 of the Scrapbook Nook "Scrap-Off" and they've been throwing challenges at us left and right! I've made a few more cards this weekend as well as a really cool layout that I made just this morning.

Here are just a couple of the cards I've made:

And here is the layout I made. The challenge here was using only Journaling tags and papers as the background paper. Luckily I had this great BoBunny sheet of journaling tags that I hadn't used (saving it for one of those rainy days I guess) and it was PERFECT for this page of my little cutie.
